The Dallas Cowboys are back in business. Not only literally as they return from the bye week to prepare for the Los Angeles Rams, but also figuratively.
Why? The NFC is wide open, even more so following the latest loss of the San Francisco 49ers. Since beating down the Cowboys 42-10, the Niners have gone 0-2. While it'll offer little consolation for many fans, the loss means two big things:
- There's a slight opening for the top seed of the NFC. The Cowboys should worry about the NFC East first, but it's still relevant big-picture-wise.
- The 49ers look extremely beatable. They're still one of the best in the NFL but 42-10 perhaps doesn't tell the full story.
The Eagles sit atop the NFC and the Cowboys are set to travel to Philly in Week 9 to face them for the first time this season. Although they're 5-1 and fresh off of slowing down one of the best offenses in the league, there's some calm in that the Cowboys arguably "control their own destiny" with two games against them.
Additionally, although the Eagles had a statement win, they also look beatable. They've had some consistency struggles, particularly in the red zone, which explains their loss to the New York Jets in Week 6. And Dak Prescott's offense has looked very efficient against Philly in recent years, as opposed to against San Fran.
All that being said, the Cowboys' great start to the week isn't all about the results around the league but also about the latest injury update for the team.
Cowboys Injury Update: No 'high concern' for anybody
Per Michael Gehllken of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys are in a spot where they'll enter the first practice of Week 8 with no "high concern" about any player.
The only players on the current 53-man roster who didn't practice fully prior to the Chargers game were backup offensive tackle Chuma Edoga (who was active) and safety Juanyeh Thomas (who was inactive).
Now granted, Leighton Vander Esch remains on Injured Reserve, perhaps the biggest injury concern for the Cowboys. But he won't be popping up on the injury report since he's off the 53-man roster for now.
Juanyeh Thomas could be trending in the right direction after missing practice all of Week 6 with a hamstring issue. His status is big as he quickly rose as a special teams ace and was certainly missed against the Chargers.
