Following Monday's news about Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott set to miss multiple weeks due to a hamstring injury, concerns existed about him potentially landing him on Injured Reserve.
Such a move would make Prescott miss four games at minimum and with a tough schedule ahead and a 3-5 record, it would likely be the end of any remaining hope for the 2024 NFL season.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealed it was "likely" the team would send Prescott to IR.
"It's an extended period of time here, I wouldn't dare make a prediction of what it could be," Jones told 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday. "It's likely that we will IR him (and see) how his rehab goes."
The news is unsurprising, specially considering where the Cowboys are at after such an underwhelming start to the year. Playoffs are mathematically possible but a pipe dream at this point, so it makes sense to take the cautious route with the quarterback. Prescott told reporters last Sunday that it would take a lot for him not to be on the playing field, but reports have indicated his injury is worse than originally thought.
With Prescott likely out for a minimum of four games, there will be questions about whether or not it'll make sense for him to come back if the season is over by the time he's eligible to return.
In the meantime, the Cowboys will carry on with Cooper Rush at the quarterback position, as Mike McCarthy confirmed Monday. Trey Lance will be the No. 2.
