The Dallas Cowboys (3-6) will officially be without starting quarterback Dak Prescott for the remainder of the 2024 season.
Prescott flew out to New York and met with a specialist on Monday to get another opinion on his hamstring injury, which didn't turn out as many had hoped.
According to club owner Jerry Jones, Prescott will undergo season-ending surgery on his hamstring this Wednesday.
Prescott suffered the injury during Week 9's loss to the Atlanta Falcons. The Cowboys turned to both Cooper Rush and Trey Lance in Week 10's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Who Dallas leans on for the rest of the year remains to be seen, though head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters he plans to start Rush over Lance for now. The team also signed Will Grier to the practice squad ahead of their Week 11 Monday Night Football matchup against the Houston Texans.
Prescott, who signed a lucrative contract extension at the start of the 2024 season, ends the year completing 64.7% of his passes for 1,978 yards and 11 touchdowns with eight interceptions.
