Dallas Cowboys superstar edge rusher Micah Parsons sure knows how to stay in the headlines, I'll tell you that.
Besides his impressive level of play week in and week out, he won't back down of voicing his opinion, whether that means taking a shot at NFL Officiating or chiming in against a rival's MVP case on Christmas Day.
Parsons took to Twitter/X to say what everyone was thinking during Monday Night Football between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers in Week 16: Brock Purdy is no longer the MVP frontrunner of the 2023 NFL season.
Parsons posted the below tweet, suggesting the Niners quarterback didn't have what it takes to mount a comeback because the offense wasn't even attempting to push the ball downfield.
And he sure as heck wasn't alone in that sentiment as he dropped significantly in the betting world, all the way down to fourth per DraftKings. Here's how they're ranked as of Tuesday morning:
- Lamar Jackson -160
- Christian McCaffrey +400
- Tua Tagovailoa +1000
- Brock Purdy +1200
- Josh Allen +1600
- Dak Prescott +2000
In another tweet, Parsons said "CMC is the horse of the 49ers!!!" A running back has yet to win an MVP since Adrian Peterson ran for over 2,000 yards back in 2012. While he's great, it's the word "valuable" that makes it tricky because a running back is objectively not as valuable as a quarterback is.
Parsons knows a thing or two about being knocked out of the MVP conversation as his own teammate suffered from that. Prescott's rough day in Buffalo knocked him down after briefly being the odds-on favorite to win the award.
Parsons also knows his words could have some additional meaning if the Cowboys are to get to where they want to go. The road to the Super Bowl likely goes through San Francisco and the Niners have dominated Dallas in the last few years. The truth is, there's a very real scenario where Parsons ends up eating his words from Monday.
Making Purdy look like he did against the Baltimore Ravens is no easy task. It will require the best version of the Cowboys defense and one that capitalizes on the opportunities thrown their way.
Think about it this way: The 49ers were -5 in the turnover battle and still had a slim chance to steal the game away late in the fourth quarter.
They remain the NFC's team to beat and the Cowboys might just get another chance. Parsons better be ready for them when the time comes.
