Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is thrilled about how quarterback Dak Prescott has looked this offseason.
McCarthy even went as far as to say that Prescott is having his best offseason yet, only improving upon his ability to connect with his receivers.
"I think Dak's having his best offseason program that we've had and he's had really good offseason programs the whole time," McCarthy said. "I think this atmosphere that we practice in, the receivers and the quarterback, have really hit the mark. I'm really impressed with the quality of work. .. I think the offensive perimeter and quarterbacks have really excelled through this offseason program. I think they have taken a step."
Prescott throwing perfect passes shouldn't come by much of a surprise considering he led the league with 36 touchdown passes in 2023.
What is a bit surprising is that he has been looking his best without his top receiver CeeDee Lamb, who is holding out for a contract extension.
Like Lamb, Prescott is also waiting on his own contract extension, though that hasn't stopped him from showing up to offseason practices and working his tail off — which clearly hasn't gone unnoticed.
Prescott made it clear back in April that he isn't concerned about when or how big his next payday with be, but is rather focused on becoming the best quarterback for his team.
"Honestly, I'm focused on the moment, on the now," Prescott said. "If the talks begin and real talks get to happen, sure, we can talk about getting that done, but in this case right now I'm worried about getting better, being better than I am at this moment. So leaving that up to my agent and Jerry at this point."
From the looks of it, per McCarthy, it sounds like he's standing true to his words.
Prescott is coming off his best season in Dallas after leading the Cowboys to a third straight playoff appearance while posting career highs in completions (410), completion percentage (69.5) and QB rating (105.9). For his outstanding efforts, he finished second in MVP voting, behind winner Lamar Jackson.
