Here at A to Z Sports, we know how big November is for NFL teams with playoff aspirations, such as the Dallas Cowboys. But we also know it's never too early for a mock draft.

That's why we put together a company-wide 2024 NFL Mock Draft in which we all made the pick for the team we cover.

That means I got to write the name of a future Cowboy on a fictional card. If the season ended right now, the Cowboys would pick 21st overall. Let's dive into the pick I made.

Round 1, Pick 21 – Oklahoma OT Tyler Guyton

Here's my write-up for the original mock draft:

"It seems like we say this every year but it’s never been truer: It’s time for the Cowboys to think of life after Tyron Smith. They brought him back on a reworked deal which is heavy on incentives. He’s missed three games this season with multiple injuries. Guyton is a beast at 6-6 that looks comfortable in pass protection. He plays right tackle, which could be a question mark though."

Now that we have more space to discuss this selection, let me clarify a few things. First of all, the Cowboys were thinking about life after Tyron Smith when they picked Tyler Smith back in 2022.* But right now, the latter is playing at an All-Pro level at guard!

*Note: I just realized picking Guyton would mean having THREE Tylers on the offensive line. That sounds like a nightmare and I lowkey regret my mock pick.

Do the Cowboys want to change his position or leave him where he's dominated Aaron Donald and Jalen Carter in back-to-back weeks? It's worth a conversation.

Even if they decide to move on with making Tyler Smith the left tackle, there are still good questions to be asked that would make drafting Guyton make sense:

Terence Steele is struggling. If he doesn't improve, do the Cowboys move him to guard having locked themselves to his future with an $87 million contract? That would allow them to have Guyton walk right into the right tackle job.

Overall, it feels like the Cowboys could need another offensive lineman and at 21st overall, Guyton would have tremendous value.

"Several NFL scouts believe his potential is greater than that of Anton Harrison, a 2023 first-rounder from Oklahoma," wrote The Athletic's Dane Brugler on his 2024 Big Board.
