You might've missed it but there countless articles and stories floating online making it seem like Jimmy Johnson is back with the Dallas Cowboys ahead of the 2024 NFL season. I'm here to spoil the party.
In a recent interview on 560 AM in Miami, Johnson hit fans with an unexpected comment while speaking through his iconic laughter: "Since the Ring of Honor, I am on (Jerry Jones') advisory board now. We're talking on the phone. I talked to him about an hour after his Green Bay loss, and he was talking about what all he needed to do because he had big decisions on Mike McCarthy and Dan Quinn and Dak Prescott. Everything is hunky dory now. I am back in the fold with the Cowboys."
Before you get all excited after reading Johnson's comments, it's important for you to listen to the actual audio clip to notice the legendary coach's tone is that of somebody that's mostly kidding.
Johnson's history with the Cowboys has been told a bazillion times. He was a true great and it's awesome that he's now immortalized in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Ring of Honor.
But as it would be the case with any 80-year-old coach that's been away from the job since 1999, he wouldn't move the needle for the 2024 Cowboys in an advisory capacity nor any other. That's not a knock on Jimmy, at all. Rather, just the reality of football: The game changes consistently.
So before you get any ideas, Johnson isn't really back with the Cowboys. But hey, maybe if he spends more time chatting with Jerry on the phone he can convince him of spending some more money in what the owner is claiming to be an "all-in" offseason.
I'm not holding my breath, though.

Won’t be easy, though.
