We all knew it was coming but now it's official: The Dallas Cowboys placed quarterback Dak Prescott on Injured Reserve on Monday, ending his 2024 NFL season.

Prescott underwent surgery after suffering a serious hamstring injury in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons. Before making the decision, the quarterback sought multiple opinions to avoid the final outcome.

While Prescott being out for the year isn't exactly breaking news, the official move also meant there was an open roster spot and we now know who's taking it: Cornerback Josh Butler.

Butler was a UFL standout in 2023 with the Michigan Panthers, starting eleven games and totaling 29 tackles. That same year, Butler was signed to the Cowboys' practice squad. He re-signed with the team in 2024 and has played two games this season as a practice squad gameday elevation.

Now, however, he's been promoted to the 53-man roster. He's likely to play a role in Week 11 against the Houston Texans as the team is down DaRon Bland and Jourdan Lewis. He's unlikely to start, as Caelen Carson and Israel Mukuamu are more likely to be called for the job but there should be opportunities for Bland to see the field against a talented wide receiver core including Nico Collins and Tank Dell.

More importantly, adding Butler to the roster allows the Cowboys to elevate two more players from the practice squad, which they did ahead of tonight's game: CB Kemon Hall and TE Princeton Fant.

Hall was a preseason standout, recording multiple takeaways and PBUs in August. He could also see some reps depending on how the game goes on primetime.

The Cowboys are seven-point underdogs heading into this one and it'll take a big effort from the defensive backfield to slow down a Texans passing game that has been night and day with and without Nico Collins, who's slated to return tonight.
