The Dallas Cowboys announced they're sending three more players to the Pro Bowl Games this week that were not selected in the original ballot in LG Tyler Smith, TE Jake Ferguson, and DE DeMarcus Lawrence.

The Cowboys originally had nine Pro Bowlers in Zack Martin, CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons, Dak Prescott, Bryan Anger, and DaRon Bland.

Out of those, Martin and Prescott will not be attending the event due to "personal reasons," per Dallas Morning News' Michael Gehlken.

Tyler Smith might've deserved the Pro Bowl nod more than Martin

Ironically enough, Smith will actually be replacing Martin, per the Cowboys. I want to be very clear and say this isn't meant to be a knock on Zack but: Tyler might've deserved it even more in the first place.

His 2023 season was that good. He settled in at left guard and graded Top 15 in both run and pass blocking. He faced several of the best defensive tackles in the NFL including Aaron Donald and Jalen Carter. He won both of those matchups. Smith even earned second-team All-Pro honors after a successful second year in the league.

How 'bout Jake Ferguson, huh!?

I've joked before that he's the one guy Cowboys fans are happy with following the playoff disaster that took place versus the Green Bay Packers. In that game, he was perhaps the lone silver lining, as I detailed in my breakdown of the game:

As frustrated as you are with this game – and you should be – you can't overlook Ferguson's game. The guy caught 10 passes for 93 yards and scored three touchdowns.

That included an elite grab over the middle where he went up in the air and pulled it down. By the time the game ended, the second-year standout was 5-for-5 in contested throws sent his way.

The best part of his game might've been you could just tell how much he cares. The Cowboys have their best guy at the position since Jason Witten and it's not even close.

Ferguson is one of those guys that seems bound to superstardom. He'll get to chop it up with several stars this week. Ferguson ended the season with 71 catches for 761 yards and five touchdowns.

As for DeMarcus Lawrence, you've got to be happy about him making the trip. We're talking about a guy who's been lights for the last few years but doesn't get the credit because of a lack of sacks. However, he remains one of the best run defenders in the entire NFL and should be considered one of the best players in the league.

Are good Pro Bowl news bittersweet news?

Although we're excited about the Cowboys sending players who deserve it to the Pro Bowl Games, it's also a bit of an inadvertent backhanded compliment from the league: Ferguson and Lawrence are replacing members of the San Francisco 49ers, George Kittle and Nick Bosa.

Yet another reminder that the Cowboys are near the top of the NFC but not at it. Such is life in the NFL.
