The Dallas Cowboys are set to face the Miami Dolphins later this afternoon. Preparing for the 10-4 Dolphins is tricky for a couple of reasons.
One of them is their head coach, Mike McDaniel, who comes from the Kyle Shanahan tree of coaches, and as you might be painfully aware of, Shanahan himself has given the Cowboys their share of problems over the years.
The second reason is the speed they have on the field: Everyone knows about Tyreek Hill, De'Von Achane, and Jaylen Waddle and the speed they bring.
Well, they just added some more, this time on the other side of the field: On Sunday morning it was announced that the Dolphins elevated Ethan Bonner from the practice squad ahead of the matchup.
Normally this is a move that won't catch much attention, but Bonner is a particularly fast individual. Out of Stanford, Bonner wasn't invited to the Senior Bowl or the NFL Combine only had his school's pro day to showcase his talent to NFL scouts.
The undrafted rookie would do that by running a blazing 4.39 in the 40-yard dash.
Tyreek Hill has also gone on record saying Bonner is the second-fastest player on the team, not Jaylen Waddle or De'Von Achane, which is saying a whole lot.
Is it likely he is on the field for a lot of snaps later today? Probably not, but I also wouldn't rule out the idea of him seeing significant snaps on special teams. To win this game, in which the Cowboys are 1.5-point underdogs, it'll take success in all three phases of the game.
Even if it's just on special teams, Bonner's speed is one the Cowboys have to account for.
