As we enter the back end of the 2023 NFL season, it is a good time to look ahead.

More specifically to the offseason and areas the team needs to improve or areas that might come up in case there is an opportunity to improve.

As it currently stands, the Dallas Cowboys are 8-3. They sit in second place in the NFC East, and if the season ended today they would have a spot in the playoffs; holding the highest spot among wildcard teams.

As we all know, the Cowboys are far from perfect (as evidenced by the losses to the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals), so there are definitely areas they can improve on: So let's take a look at them.

Cowboys need offensive line help

The first position that needs to be at the minimum talked about by the Dallas Cowboys is the offensive line. More specifically the left side, and even more specifically the left tackle.

Tyron Smith, for all the great he has done in his Cowboys tenure, at this point is a walking time bomb every year. It has no longer become a question of "will he get hurt?" Now it is "When will he get hurt?"

The Cowboys are under the impression they have their left tackle of the future in Tyler Smith. They are just playing him at left guard when Tyron is healthy.

If the plan is to move Tyler back out to tackle when Tyron hangs the cleats up, the Cowboys should look at addressing guard.

I'm not denying that Tyron has been dominant since his return this year, but at some point, you have to look at history. And history tells us, you can't rely on him for a full season.

Not to mention his contract is up following this year. So it will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

Running back: Life after Tony Pollard?

The next position that needs to be talked about, is again an obvious one: What are the Cowboys' plans for running back?

Currently, Tony Pollard is playing on the franchise tag. So far on the year, Pollard has only had one game with more than 100 rushing yards, and it came in the humiliating loss to the Cardinals.

But here's the kicker.

Both Pollard's and Dowdles' contracts expire after this season. This would leave the Cowboys with Deuce Vaughn, and all 5'6 of him would be the only person in the room.

In short, running back is a must-address for the Cowboys this off-season. Luckily teams have found very reliable production on day three of the NFL Draft.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cowboys double dip here and take one running back on Day 2 and add another late on Day 3.

Cornerback: More of them

The third position to look at comes with a number of caveats. The Cowboys have a number of key players on expiring contracts. Those players include Jayron Kearse, Tyler Biadasz, and Stephon Gilmore to name a few.

But the Cowboys have three upcoming free agents at corner in Stephon Gilmore, Jourdan Lewis, and Noah Igbinoghene, and in this day and age, you can never have too many corners.

I would expect the Cowboys to try and retain Gilmore, and possibly Lewis. If they are unable to retain Lewis, you can most definitely add cornerback to the list of must-add over the offseason.

Even if they keep Lewis, I would look for them to add at least someone else.
