After addressing the trenches in the first couple of rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys went back to the well in the third round by picking Kansas State guard Cooper Beebe with the 73rd overall pick.

Beebe shouldn't be overlooked: Although he didn't play the position in college, he's a legit candidate to be the starting center of the Cowboys if he learns how to snap the football. He'll have to fight Brock Hoffman for the role if that is indeed the Cowboys' plan.

James Foster ranked him as his 66th best prospect in the draft while Beebe was 46th in the consensus board.

Cooper Beebe Scouting Report from A to Z Sports Film Room's James Foster

Strengths:

  • 48 career starts
  • Mauler at the 2nd level. Nukes LBs when he builds up speed
  • Generates torque & leg-drive on down blocks
  • Elite hand pop to generate maximum force on initial contact
  • Punishes over-extension with traps/counters
  • Tree-strump build & flexible lower half to smother bull rushes
  • Exceptional awareness & processing skills
  • Good posture & hand usage in pass protection
  • Doesn't stop his feet when mirroring cross-face moves

Weaknesses:

  • Short arms & small hands
  • Tested well, but sometimes looks stiff/plodding on the move
  • Average slide quickness & recovery range
  • Gets stacked when he allows early strikes into his frame
  • Inconsistent footwork & weight displacement on backside cutoffs
