NFL fines are back and as expected, the Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles Kickoff game produced significant news on that front.

From Tyler Guyton’s viral play resulting in a fine to an official decision on Dak Prescott following a “spitting incident” with Eagles DT Jalen Carter, let’s dive in.

Tyler Guyton’s viral block leads to hefty fine

Guyton went viral in the offseason for a viral clip boxing in the middle of a monsoon and again in Week 1 for a play that reminded everyone of his boxing moves. In a pass pro rep, he threw a “punch” to an Eagles edge rusher that landed on the opponent’s helmet. It was more of an open-handed slap but still a finable offense, based on the NFL’s latest announcement.

Guyton is being fined for $12,172, as insider Patrik Walker reported earlier in the week. Now it’s official. The league categorized the play as unnecessary roughness for “striking.”

In addition to Guyton, Cowboys linebacker Marist Liufau is also being fined $7,186 for a facemask penalty.

Dak Prescott officially not fined for spitting incident

As expected following the lack of a suspension similar to Jalen Carter’s, the Cowboys quarterback wasn’t fined for last week’s spitting incident. Fans and media members briefly speculated about potential discipline for Prescott due to broadcast shots of the quarterback spitting before Carter. However, additional shots showed Prescott and Carter yards apart from each other. The quarterback explained he wasn’t spitting at Carter.

It shouldn’t be a surprise, but Saturday’s fines not including Prescott confirm the suspicions going into the weekend.

Every Saturday, the NFL is announcing its league-wide fines and amounts for penalties committed the previous week.

“The fines collected are donated to the Professional Athletes Foundation to support Legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game,” reads the league’s Operations website.
