Dak Prescott had a strong message for CeeDee Lamb amid struggles before beating the Eagles in Week 12
CeeDee Lamb had a drop issue versus the Eagles. But Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has his back.
The Dallas Cowboys came back from a 21-point deficit to beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 12. And the most surprising part? They did so despite an underwhelming performance from star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
Lamb had two big drops, one on third and nine, and the other in the end zone. At other times, he appeared to run the wrong route. At another, he seemed to lose sight of the ball due to the sunlight. It was a frustrating afternoon for the $136 million wide receiver, and it clearly created frustration on the sidelines.
However, Lamb made a big play late in the game. We’ve seen what he’s capable of. So, when things were going south, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott made sure his message to him was one of confidence.
“He’s a guy that expects to make a lot of plays, and when he’s not making them, trust me, I’ve had games I felt the exact same way,” Prescott told reporters postgame. “So, for me [the message] was about, ‘Hey, don’t press. Let’s not let’s not ride the highs and the lows. Even if you’ve had a bad play or whatever, maybe let it go. You’re a hell of a player, and you know it.”
Those are strong words of trust from the QB, especially in such circumstances. They paid off, even if things weren’t perfect anyway. Lamb made a huge 48-yard catch, followed by a crucial defensive pass interference to set up the Cowboys’ second touchdown of the day.
“He made great plays and big plays,” Prescott added. “The big catch down the end and got the [pass interference] would have been a touchdown right after that. Yeah, and when you press, and I’ve seen CeeDee do it, you’re not going to get the best version of yourself.
“I’m the same way. And so for me, it’s like when I can tell he’s getting in that position, it’s just about talking to him, and he did a good job of responding and just staying with it and made the plays that he needed to make for us to ultimately win this game. And he’s a hell of a player, and he’s going to get frustrated when he’s not making the plays that he expects to make. But he will make those.”
Brian Schottenheimer promises Lamb will remain a priority on offense
Prescott’s confidence in Lamb is shared by head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who sent a strong message himself: The Cowboys’ confidence in Lamb isn’t wavering when it comes to targets.
“The ball is gonna keep coming his way,” Schottenheimer said. “When we start drawing up plays for Kansas City — I’ll give them a little heads-up — there’ll be a lot of them going to 88.”
