The son of a former Dallas Cowboys starter is already considered a high level recruit, and elite programs are taking early notice
Former Dallas Cowboys starter has a son that is turning a lot of heads
When you talk about the most productive defensive linemen in college football history, he might not be at the very top of the list, but former South Florida star George Selvie was outstanding for the Bulls. During his outstanding four-year career, Selvie managed to collect 206 total tackles, 70 tackles for loss, 28.5 sacks, and eight forced fumbles.
The talented pass rusher parlayed his All-American career into being selected in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams. In total, Selvie spent six years on the NFL level with the Rams, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants, and the Carolina Panthers. His most significant impact came during his two years in Dallas, collecting 75 total tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks.
Selvie is still just 38 years old, and just ended his career back in 2015, but NFL fans that remember him well are about to feel very old. If you go take a look at the first 247 Sports ranking unveiling for the 2028 recruiting class, you are going to see a very familiar name in elite status, Riverview (Fla.) Sumner offensive lineman George Selvie III.
In the initial 247 Sports ranking release, Selvie is ranked as the No. 23 overall player, No. 2 interior offensive lineman, and No. 7 player in the state of Florida for the 2028 recruiting class. On the Composite ranking, that has Selvie pegged as a five-star recruit right now.
Even though Selvie hasn’t started his sophomore season yet, a long list of impressive programs have already offered him. Some of the top schools that have pursued the 6-3, 260-pound offensive lineman include Ohio State, Penn State, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Arizona, Syracuse, and Wake Forest among several others.
Once upon a time, the older Selvie was a very underrated high school recruit. His son isn’t dealing with that problem, already bordering on elite status. When you pop on the film, it is hard not to be super impressed by Selvie. While he plays on the offensive side of the football, the overall athleticism he possesses is impressive. He isn’t the biggest offensive lineman of all time, but he has a good enough frame to add enough weight down the road. Selvie is a tenacious, explosive, and physical blocker who has a ton of upside.
Even though Selvie is a USF legacy, the odds are not in the Bulls’ favor to land a player of this quality.
