Can Cowboys stop Eagles' Tush Push, again?
By now, I'm sure everyone has heard of the "Tush Push" or the "Brotherly Shove" as the Philadelphia Eagles have tried to brand it. If you haven't, let me explain. It is used on downs where there is just 1 yard or less to go and you're looking to move the chains. The quarterback will […]
By now, I'm sure everyone has heard of the "Tush Push" or the "Brotherly Shove" as the Philadelphia Eagles have tried to brand it.
If you haven't, let me explain.
It is used on downs where there is just 1 yard or less to go and you're looking to move the chains. The quarterback will line up under center with 2-3 players behind him. The quarterback will take the snap and just immediately drive his feet into the backs of the offensive linemen inching forward for yards. At one point a hole might open up, the QB will take it, fall to the ground and boom. First down.
The concept itself is simple, however, there are intricacies among the offensive line and their technique that make it harder than it sounds.
The kicker is, the only team who has been able to successfully do it on a consistent basis is the Philadelphia Eagles. And frankly, they look unstoppable doing it.
The Cowboys know they will face it this week so it looks as if they have been experimenting with ways to combat it.
They already stopped it once this year on this play.
And it is simply to have a very athletic defender jump over the offensive linemen and make the stop (easier said than done).
But as we mentioned, the Philadelphia Eagles are different than every other team when they do this.
The way to stop this if your the Cowboys is to have your most athletic defender do this.
That would be Micah Parsons.
The Cowboys have also recently started moving Micah over the center in certain scenarios.
Could this be so that he gets used to lining up there so he can jump the line and attempt the "tush push?"
We will find out Sunday.
