Dallas Cowboys make already odd situation even weirder moments before Packers matchup on Sunday Night Football
The Dallas Cowboys announced their inactives for Week 4 and one name on the list is catching everyone’s attention.
The Dallas Cowboys have announced their inactives ahead of their Week 4 Sunday Night Football game against the Green Bay Packers, and a rookie on the list is the most noteworthy.
Despite making positive comments about fifth-round rookie running back Jaydon Blue, head coach Brian Schottenheimer is making him a healthy scratch again. Earlier in the week, he told reporters that the defense’s need for numbers in previous weeks was a big reason for the running back remaining inactive. Now, the Cowboys didn’t elevate a single defender from the practice squad, and still, Blue can’t get on the field.
“Jaydon’s actually put together a couple really good weeks of practice,” Schottenheimer said earlier in the week. “We challenged him, we talked to him about consistency, working harder on the scout team and things like that [. . .] In no way, shape or form is Jaydon doing things that would not allow him to be activated.”
Then why is he inactive? The Blue situation is getting weirder and weirder for the Cowboys. Starting running back Javonte Williams has been great, entering Week 4 ranked second in EPA/play. But to not even give Blue a chance over Miles Sanders and others seems like a message from the coaching staff. Has he been that bad in practice? What is the coaching staff seeing that we didn’t in the preseason?
In a game like Sunday night, you need a spark. Blue could’ve provided it. But there’s a reason why he isn’t active, and it’s becoming increasingly clear the coaching staff doesn’t like what it’s seeing.
Cowboys’ inactives for Week 4 vs. Packers
- WR CeeDee Lamb
- RG Tyler Booker
- RB Jaydon Blue
- DT Jay Toia
- OT Ajani Cornelius
- LB Damone Clark
Other notes on Cowboys inactives:
- Shemar James will make his season debut on Sunday over veteran linebacker Damone Clark, a notable shakeup on Matt Eberflus’ defense.
- Jadeveon Clowney will make his Cowboys debut after being signed earlier in the month. Schottenheimer said he’ll be on a pitch count on Sunday.
- CeeDee Lamb and Tyler Booker are inactive. Though unsurprising, it’s relevant that the team didn’t place either on Injured Reserve, signaling hopes for them to be back sooner than expected. Placing them on IR would require each to miss four games minimum.
- Jay Toia is inactive once again over Mazi Smith. Toia, a seventh-round rookie, began the season active over Smith.
