Jerry Jones claims the Cowboys have made a trade, working on more: We now know who, live updates ahead of NFL trade deadline
Jerry Jones sure knows how to stir up the pot.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced his team had made a trade hours before the team’s Monday Night Football matchup in Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals. He made the announcement while talking to Stephen A. Smith on stage at a live event in Texas Live! at Arlington, Texas.
Jones declined to add any names for players but added the front office was working on two more moves. On Tuesday morning, we found out he was talking about Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson. The Cowboys are giving up a seventh-round draft pick for him.
“Immediately it will have him on the field and it will address some of the things that have been our shortcomings,” Jones said via The Athletic’s Jon Machota.
The Cowboys are 3-5-1 leading up to tonight’s game and the NFL trade deadline set for Nov. 4 at 4:00 p.m. ET. Dallas has probably run out of time to save the season. Some, including myself, have argued at this point, the Cowboys should be cautious about giving up too much considering how tough it will be to save the season.
Jerry Jones admitted there was no official trade done postgame
Though the trade for Wilson was reported Monday morning, Jerry Jones told reporters following the Cowboys’ loss to the Arizona Cardinals that the deal was not done yet.
In the final minutes leading up to Monday night’s kickoff, Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan that he believes the Cowboys have a deal but it hadn’t been finalized, which is why he didn’t offer a specific name at first. He added the deal won’t be impacted by the outcome of the Cowboys’ game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Other candidates that could make sense
On Stephen A. Smith’s show, Jones claimed the Cowboys were working on a couple more trades. Though that probably has died off with the team’s loss on MNF, here are some names that could still make sense:
- S Minkah Fitzpatrick, Miami Dolphins: He’s signed through 2026 and the Cowboys want to get someone who helps them beyond the 2025 season. It would make sense given their 3-4-1 record.
- DE Tyree Wilson, Las Vegas Raiders: Also signed through 2026, Wilson could provide some upside for the Cowboys’ pass rush. They badly need it.
- DE Bradley Chubb, Miami Dolphins: I wouldn’t be a fan, but Chubb would likely be addition that slightly improves the edge rusher room.
