Clarity is emerging on what the Dallas Cowboys are thinking ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, including their potential plans for the No. 12 overall pick.
Top 30 visits often offer significant intel about what a team is looking at ahead of the NFL Draft and now we know 15 of the Cowboys' scheduled visits. Though some teams use these visits as smokescreens or to further look into players they're unsure about, Dallas uses them on players they're seriously interested in.
Listed below are the biggest takeaways we've got from what we know so far.
Wide receiver might be Cowboys' top priority
Of the Cowboys' 15 known visits, three are first-round wide receivers:
- Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State
- Tetairoa McMillan, Arizona
- Luther Burden, Missouri
It wouldn't be a surprise to learn Matthew Golden from Texas is also among the Cowboys' scheduled visits though it hasn't been reported. It's no secret Dallas urgently needs a wide receiver to complement CeeDee Lamb. The front office's best shot at landing a true impact maker is the No. 12 overall pick.
So far, no visits with Day 2 wide receiver prospects have been reported, though the Cowboys hosted TCU WR Jack Bech in their local Dallas Day.
Omarion Hampton is absolutely in the mix at No. 12 overall
Another first-round position that stands out from the Cowboys' Top 30 visits is running back. Technically, Ashton Jeanty wasn't a visit as he was part of the team's local Dallas Day. However, the team did schedule a visit with North Carolina's Omarion Hampton.
Reports have indicated Hampton is higher on teams' boards than the media has suggested for most of the Draft process and insider Mel Kiper Jr. has now mocked the UNC running back three consecutive times to Dallas. With the Cowboys also hosting Ohio State's running back duo made up of TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins, it's clear they're targeting a RB in the first couple of rounds.
At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Hampton is the choice at No. 12.
Cowboys could pick defense in the first round
Though wide receiver and running back appear to be the priority, the Cowboys are also hosting a few defenders they'd likely need to pick in the first round. Notably, the three of them are defensive linemen.
- DT Walter Nolen: The second-best defensive tackle in the eyes of multiple analysts, though character concerns could cause him to drop.
- DL Shemar Stewart: An athletic freak that's all about traits after a low-production career. He can line up everywhere on the defensive line and could be great on Matt Eberflus' defense.
- EDGE James Pearce Jr.: An athletic edge rusher with high upside whose draft stock appears to be everywhere between mid-first round and Day 2.
With a clear need at cornerback, I wonder if we'll hear about prospects such as Michigan's Will Johnson being scheduled for visits or if the Cowboys will keep it in the trenches.
Shavon Revel Jr. is a second-round defender to watch
If it's not in the first, there's a high likelihood the Cowboys target defense in the second round. The team is hosting Texas DL Alfred Collins and East Carolina CB Shavon Revel Jr. Both would cover top needs for Dallas. But if I had to pick one as the likeliest choice I'd go with Revel Jr. He just fits the team's second-round type perfectly.
Revel Jr. is a first-round talent whose stock took a hit due to a torn ACL in October. Dr. Dan Cooper, who has worked with the Cowboys for year, is behind his surgery, giving Dallas unique insight into his situation.
