Latest injury news could have a serious impact on the Dallas Cowboys’ first-round draft plans
The Dallas Cowboys are probably going to be taking a close look at the latest injury update to hit the pre-draft process.
It’s that time of the year when all draft news feels huge, no matter what it is.
This time, the Dallas Cowboys’ first-round draft plans, particularly those for their No. 20 overall pick, could be significantly impacted by an unfortunate injury update ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Potential Cowboys’ first-round target aggravates injury
Avieon Terrell, the cornerback out of Clemson expected to be picked in the first round of the draft, keeps hitting speed bumps in his pre-draft process. In late February, his NFL Scouting Combine workout was cut short due to a hamstring injury.
The same injury kept him out of Clemson’s Pro Day earlier in March. As a result, Terrell scheduled his own Pro Day with 29 NFL teams in attendance. Unfortunately, his hamstring injury flared up again.
“Terrell aggravated his hamstring injury today on the first run of his private pro day at Clemson,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday morning.
His bumpy road to the draft, particularly given that it’s the same issue popping up, raises questions about how early is too early to pick him. Considering he is 5-foot-11 and 186 pounds with a slight frame, questions about his durability already existed.
With the Cowboys still needing a nickel cornerback, Terrell seems like a likely target at No. 20 overall or later. We’ll see how much the hamstring injury impacts his stock, though.
Avieon Terrell scouting report summary
Rob Gregson: “Terrell provides something that no other top-flight corner in the class does: true inside-outside versatility. You can watch him handle receivers with ease down the boundary and break on the football from wide alignments. Then, you can see how his fundamental technique, smooth footwork, and buttery hips allow him to excel in close quarters as a nickel.
“Some may question his usage due to size constraints, but Terrell consistently exceeds his measurements on tape. The final step is adding play recognition and ball tracking to his game so he can become a complete corner that makes quarterbacks fearful of testing him.”
