The latest Micah Parsons contract negotiations update should be embarrassing for the Dallas Cowboys, but we're used to it by now

One of my favorite Seinfeld episodes is the one in which George Costanza isn't sure if he got a job or not because the interviewer didn't finish his sentence. At this point, he decides to just show up, thinking if he has the job, then nothing can go wrong. To this, Jerry argues if he didn't get the gig, then he'll be embarrassed and humiliated.
"Yeah. So?" replies George.
"Yeah, I see what you mean, I forgot who I was dealing with," Jerry says.
I thought of this scene when the latest report emerged surrounding the Dallas Cowboys' contract negotiations with Micah Parsons. According to NFL Network's insider Jane Slater, no contract offer has been extended to the superstar pass rusher.
"What I can tell you is Jerry and Micah have talked many times this offseason but to say a contract offer has been extended to his representatives would be inaccurate," Slater posted on X on Wednesday.
Arguably the best defender in football is entering a contract year and he has yet to even receive an offer?
This Cowboys front office, like Costanza, just doesn't get embarrassed anymore. Because in an NFL landscape where most, if not all, of the 2021 first-round standouts have received contract extensions, it is unacceptable that Parsons is waiting for a proposal. Heck, 2022 first-rounders are already being extended.
And yet, you couldn't expect anything else. Not that long ago, the Cowboys allowed Dak Prescott to play on the franchise tag. Last season, they didn't extend Prescott's and CeeDee Lamb's deals until near the start of the regular season.
In this league, getting ahead of the curve is the name of the game. But the Cowboys' salary cap management continues to be hindered by their "deadlines make deals" approach to negotiating.
The Parsons negotiations could've been different. The superstar defender pushed them in public to get a deal done early, going as far as saying the team couldn't afford to wait on deals anymore. Parsons suggested that we was willing to expedite a deal for the front office to spend in free agency.
Now, it's clear that's not going to happen.
It was always going to end this way, I guess. A drawn out negotiating process that will likely end in a historic contract extension but not before hindering the team's salary cap. And certainly not before months and months of free media coverage. It's the Joneses way. They should be ashamed of it, but likely won't.
