The Dallas Cowboys have been banged up for the last handful of weeks and they'll continue to be in Week 9 when they take on the Atlanta Falcons on the road. Among the names they'll be missing are WR Brandin Cooks, DE DeMarcus Lawrence, and, likely, DE Micah Parsons and CB DaRon Bland.
The latter two have missed practice all week long and aren't expected to play on Sunday despite Bland being activated off of Injured Reserve earlier in the week. There's no much suspense there as it'd take a major surprise for them to end up playing this weekend.
However, cornerback Trevon Diggs is dealing with a calf injury Jerry Jones described as a "tear" and is likely to be a gameday decision.
“There’s specific drills we’ll need to him to do tomorrow, but he was much better today than we could’ve anticipated,” McCarthy told reporters on Friday via ESPN's Todd Archer. “He’s doing everything he can to try to get ready for Sunday.”
The Cowboys usually hold their last practice of the week on Saturday instead of Friday, when the final injury report is announced. In the past, McCarthy has described the coaching staff's process to determine who will play and who won't: After Saturday practice, coaches hold a personnel meeting before boarding the plane and often determine who will go and who won't.
With Bland out and backup Amani Oruwariye sent to Injured Reserve earlier in the week with a back injury, the Cowboys might tip off their decision around Diggs on Saturday when they announce their practice squad elevations, as they could call up Kemon Hall or Josh Butler for depth. Caelen Carson should be returning to action as he's been a full participant in practice.
For now, there's nothing Cowboys Nation can do but wait.
