Micah Parsons kicks off 2026 by dunking on the Cowboys, and it’s easy to see why
Micah Parsons is thinking about the Dallas Cowboys on the first day of the year. Here’s why.
Why would Micah Parsons be thinking about the Dallas Cowboys on the very first day of 2026?
Well, for one, Parsons is known to be constantly online, and he never shies away from letting his thoughts be known on whatever is going on in the NFL news cycle that day. For another, it was Parsons who was on Cowboys defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus’ mind first. According to Clarence Hill Jr. from DLLS Sports, Eberflus — who is considered to be on the hot seat — admitted on Thursday that “things changed for the defense” when they lost an All-Pro pass rusher.
Parsons’ reaction is justified
Parsons quoted Hill Jr.’s post on Eberflus’ stance with multiple laughing emojis. And though he offered no further commentary, it’s clear he’s openly mocking his former team. And maybe Eberflus himself a little bit, even though it wasn’t the coach who spearheaded efforts to trade him away in August.
And while I expect Cowboys Nation to fire back at Parsons with accusations of not moving on and things of the sort, I’ve got to say there are a few reasons why his reaction is more than justified.
For starters, it’s a silly thing to “admit” because it’s overwhelmingly obvious. Of course, losing one of the best pass rushers in the NFL changes things. You don’t need a defensive coordinator to tell you that. However, hearing Eberflus openly admit it is a reminder of two things the Cowboys tried to pitch the fanbase following Parsons’ trade in August:
- They maintained that the Cowboys had made a “unanimous” decision to move on from Parsons, including the coaching staff. Since Day 1, that’s been difficult to believe. After all, the issues between Parsons and the organization were mostly with the front office, not the coaches.
- The front office alleged the Cowboys would be better “now” by acquiring Kenny Clark, not only in the long-term future, thanks to the first-round draft picks acquired.
Eberflus’ commentary all but confirms “unanimous” might have been an overstatement. And after a season of struggles getting to the quarterback and slowing down absolutely no one, it’s obvious they did not get better. Again, you didn’t need a coach to tell you that.
UPDATE: Parsons doubles down on Cowboys criticism on New Years
After mixed responses from fans on social media, Parsons doubled down on his stance with a message claiming, “Jerry Jones slandered my name to Cowboys media and national media for months. So I do think I can react to comment if I want to!”
I, for one, think it’s time for everyone to turn the page.
With that being said, the Cowboys shouldn’t be let off the hook for one of the biggest decisions they’ve made in recent memory. But after watching Dallas field one of the worst defenses in the NFL, it’s only fair to see where Parsons is coming from, even though it may come off as petty to some.
Before suffering a season-ending knee injury, Parsons was considered an All-Pro candidate after posting 12.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and 26 QB hits in 14 games played.
