As the Dallas Cowboys prepare to face the New Orleans Saints, they might have a big – yet very unfortunate – advantage ahead of the Week 2 showdown.
Via A to Z Sports Saints writer Adam Holt, "According to Katherine Terrell of ESPN, the Saints are staying "on notice" regarding Tropical Storm Francine. The storm is expected to intensify into a hurricane by Monday night or Tuesday morning, via the National Hurricane Center.
Evidently, that means the Saints will need to pivot and and adjust the team's practice schedule this week, which is never ideal in the fast-paced world of the National Football League.
"My plan is to have a Zoom call with the team at some point tomorrow and we'll talk about what we need to do," Saints head coach Dennis Allen told reporters.
Per Holt, the Saints don't expect to be required to evacuate but they do believe Wednesday and Thursday will be altered the most.
The Saints head coach notes that their Wednesday/Thursday schedule may be what is altered the most. He did not think that evacuation would be required due to the hurricane, but that can always change.
The latest weather projection model actually shows that New Orleans may get a worse dose of bad weather than previously expected, though. If that's the case, the Saints may have to reevaluate their plan for later this week.
The Saints are no strangers to seeing Mother Nature throw a wrench in their plans, having had to practice in Dallas in 2021 prior to the start of the regular season, working both at AT&T Stadium and later at TCU. Going back even further, the Saints have had to practice in other cities, as well, including Cincinnati in 2012 and Indianapolis in 2008.
The Saints scored 47 points against the Carolina Panthers and even though the latter is considered one of the worst teams in the NFL, the Cowboys will want to avoid a letdown spot after a big win on the road. As unfortunate as the origin of it is, the team seems to have an early advantage over Derek Carr and Co.
Football impact aside, hopefully, the Saints and everyone in the area stays safe.
