Nick Sirianni admits how good of a move the Dallas Cowboys made ahead of the 2026 NFL season
The Dallas Cowboys got one of Nick Sirianni’s staff when they hired Christian Parker as DC. And Sirianni clearly knows it.
Few people know just how valuable of a coach the Dallas Cowboys got in Christian Parker when they hired him as their new defensive coordinator. One of them, however, is Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni.
And on Tuesday, Sirianni couldn’t hide his praise for Parker.
Sirianni on ‘phenomenal’ Cowboys DC
Speaking to reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine, Sirianni addressed questions about Parker, who was the Eagles’ defensive pass game coordinator the last two years, contributing to a Super Bowl appearance in the 2024 season.
“Christian is a phenomenal football coach,” Sirianni told reporters. “He has contributed to a lot of our player development throughout the last two years that he’s been here and into a lot of success that we’ve had through these last two years.”
Now, on a pivotal year that could define his long-term future in Philadelphia following an underwhelming season, Sirianni is set to face Parker twice in 2026. That doesn’t stop the Eagles coach from wishing the new Cowboys DC success.
“I wish him the best with the exception of two games every year,” Sirianni added.
Cowboys getting Parker hurts Eagles in more than one way
It’s obvious that hiring Parker impacts the Eagles, as their division rival are set to improve on defense. That alone, in theory, should complicate Philly’s chances of repeating as NFC East champions in 2026. But a closer look at Sirianni’s words on Parker shows exactly where they’ll miss him the most.
“He has contributed to a lot of our player development throughout the last two years.”
Just ask Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell, the two Eagles cornerbacks who Parker coached to first-team All-Pro honors in their first two years in the league. He did the same with Patrick Surtain II in Denver before that. Many of his former players have publicly praised Parker for his coaching, attributing part of their success to him.
Sirianni knows that will be missed in Philadelphia. And then there’s the kicker.
For consecutive offseasons, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has considered retirement. In Parker, the Eagles had a natural successor waiting to be promoted. Instead, he’s now coaching for the Cowboys.
For now, though, Parker is worried about rebuilding one of the worst defenses in the NFL. If he does, Dallas could reclaim the NFC East division title.
