The Dallas Cowboys are gearing up for training camp and that includes making roster moves here and there.

On Wednesday, the team signed two players and waived a corresponding two. Joining the team are defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey and cornerback Robert Rochell. The Cowboys waived CB Luq Barcoo and DT Justin Rogers.

As for the newcomers, it's difficult to envision either of them making a massive impact on the 2025 Cowboys season. Rochell played one defensive snap last year with the Kansas City Chiefs and this will be his fourth team in four years. Meanwhile, Winfrey is an addition out of the UFL.

But out of the two signings, one clearly has more potential than the other and that is Winfrey, who was named All-UFL earlier this year.

Winfrey's career in the NFL took a hit because of off-the-field issues more than it did because of his play. In 2023, he was arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge in Harris County, Texas. The case was dismissed later on. The Cleveland Browns—who drafted him in 2022—disciplined Winfrey multiple times and the latter admitted he had to grow up.

If Winfrey can prove he has matured, his strong play in the UFL could continue as a rotational three-technique behind the Cowboys' Osa Odighizuwa and Solomon Thomas. As I pointed out when he initially worked out for Dallas, Winfrey already has a relationship with the Cowboys staff:

Notably, Winfrey has a relationship with Cowboys defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton, as he played for the New York Jets in 2023. That could serve as an inside track to a job and a spot on the roster. He's only 24 years old.

Ultimately, this can be looked at as a classic Cowboys bet on a player at a discount because of off the field issues. The upside might not be as high as with other players they've added, but Winfrey might wind up with a roster spot despite being signed this late.

With that being said, the Cowboys adding a defensive tackle that's not a nose tells us Dallas isn't done. They need to beef up to solve one of their biggest problems, which is stopping the run. Stay tuned for more moves before Oxnard, California.
