Dallas Cowboys land a significant yet bittersweet W ahead of Week 15 without playing a down of football
The Dallas Cowboys’ playoff chances improved on Monday night.
Repeat after me: The Dallas Cowboys are likely missing the playoffs.
With that important disclaimer out of the way—I worry about your mental health and have no intention of giving you any false hope—the Cowboys’ playoff probability was significantly impacted by Monday’s showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Chargers.
The Chargers beat the Eagles 22-19 in a mistake-plagued game that went to overtime, slightly boosting the Cowboys’ playoff chances. After the Cowboys lost to the Detroit Lions and severely harming their wild-card hopes, their best chance at making the postseason is winning the NFC East title.
The Eagles’ loss keeps that dream in reach. Beyond the final result, the way the game went will only fuel Cowboys Nation’s hopes for Philly’s collapse. The Eagles’ loss displayed the concerns around their offense, mainly due to Jalen Hurts’ five turnovers, including four interceptions.
Cowboys’ playoff hopes are quickly declining despite Monday Night Football’s result
The Eagles’ loss is a bittersweet win for the Cowboys, however. After all, they’re still living on a prayer going into Week 15.
Before Monday Night Football, the Cowboys’ playoff probabilities were calculated at 6% by the league’s NextGen Stats. They jumped to 10% after the Eagles’ loss. Here’s the easiest path to winning the division:
- The Cowboys win out and get to 10-6-1.
- The Eagles lose at least two of their last four.
It won’t be easy but the Eagles’ schedule isn’t exactly the easiest one. They still need to travel to face the Buffalo Bills in Week 17 and have two division matchups against the Washington Commanders, who may be led by Jayden Daniels (that remains to be seen due to a potentiall injury).
So if you’re a Cowboys fan looking for hope, Monday night might’ve delivered. But it’s way too early to get excited.
