New Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Quinnen Williams was honest about his role and potential impact on the team when talking to the media for the first time for the first time as a Cowboy.

Naturally, Williams was asked about coming in as the Cowboys move on from superstar defender Micah Parsons — after all, Dallas’ trade for Williams was largely a result of acquiring multiple first-rounders over the next couple of years when they dealt Parsons away.

Williams did a great job sending a message fans badly need to hear: He’s not here to replace Parsons. He doesn’t even play the same position. And he’s certainly not the same type of player.

“It’s pretty cool, Micah Parsons is a phenomenal player,” Williams told reporters on Wednesday. “He can do things I can’t dream about doing, especially when it comes down to rushing the passer. We’re totally different players, man. I’m more interior presence, interior push, physical, strong, and a good interior pass rusher.”

Placing Parsons-esque expectations on Williams would be unfair on many levels. It should be obvious to fans, but with the way many news outlets are covering the deal, it’s kind of not. Some are even suggesting Dallas essentially traded Parsons for a first-round pick, Clark, and Williams. That is a poor explanation of what has gone down since the Parsons trade.

But that doesn’t mean Cowboys fans shouldn’t be excited about his arrival. This is an All-Pro player who can wreck the game from the three-technique position.

“I’m just here to do my job to the best of my ability and be a difference-maker from an interior standpoint and a defensive line standpoint the best way I can,” Williams added.

Quinnen Williams’ own scouting report

Asked what type of player he is, Williams started with the word disruptive, but he didn’t stop there.

“I hang my hat on being disruptive, being dominant, and rushing the passer,” Williams said. “And this year, man, I’ve really taken a step forward in stopping the run. I’ve been reading and seeing a lot of stuff about Dallas and their run defense, so having the opportunity to come here and help those guys with that — to help turn this thing around in that area — is going to be unbelievable for me.”

Hopefully, Williams just does that. At 3-5-1, the Cowboys need all the help they can get. The good news is he’s here to do so past this season, as he’s under contract through 2027.
