In addition to Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons, David Mulugheta represents several NFL players that have recently received major contract extensions, including Jordan Love, Derek Stingley, Justin Fields, Christian Wilkins, Jaycee Horn, and others. He's one of the most important agents in the game of football.
"I don't know his name," said Jerry Jones about Parsons' agent at Tuesday's NFL annual league meetings via The Athletic's Jon Machota.
The Cowboys owner was speaking about emerging reports on the front office exchanging contract numbers directly with Parsons without Mulugheta being involved. According to Jones, the agent doesn't a play a factor in negotiations.
"Not really, are you kidding me?" Jones told reporters regarding agents in contract talks. "That's just not something that you should be worried about, you should be worried about your ability to make it work and you should worry about what the player does, does he have good enough health, good enough skill to do what you're paying him the money for? The agent is not a factor here or something to worry about."
Parsons didn't wait long to fire back. Though he has engaged in conversations with the Joneses without his agent, he will want Mulugheta involved in the negotiations. He recently praised him on social media for having his best interest in mind and on Tuesday, he had his back, claiming it was "facts" that Jerry's comments were disrespectful.
"Facts! David is the best and I will not be doing any deal without (him) involved!," Parsons wrote in a post. "Like anyone with good sense I hired experts for a reason. There is no one I trust more when it comes to negotiating contracts than David! There will be no backdoors in this contract negotiation."
Jones is playing a dangerous game here. Of course he loves to make headlines. But pissing off a player and his agent that everyone in the NFL would love to have? Multiple teams would do whatever it takes to land Parsons.
Now granted, we're no strangers to this stage. The Cowboys have antagonized players they're negotiating with before striking a deal for many years, more recently in 2024 with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. They know with the right numbers, the problems go away. But why play the disrespect game like this?
It's the same ol' Cowboys ahead of the 2025 NFL season and as old as it's getting, you can expect the Parsons negotiations to take a long while. For now, we wait.
