Trash talk sets the table for huge Cowboys vs Eagles matchup involving first-round rookie in Week 12
The Dallas Cowboys need to beat the Philadelphia Eagles and their first-round rookie will have a crucial role.
The last time the Dallas Cowboys played the Philadelphia Eagles, you couldn’t have asked for a wilder start. Before the first snap of the game even happened, Eagles’ star defensive tackle Jalen Carter was ejected from the game for spitting on Dak Prescott.
It immediately changed expectations for the game. Without the Eagles’ best defender on the field, Philly and Dallas battled it out for four intense quarters. The Eagles emerged victorious 24-20, but the talk of the town was how impressive the Cowboys looked after entering the matchup as large underdogs.
Fast forward to Week 12 and now, the Cowboys need to figure out what they’ll do about Carter, who is playing his best football of the year lately. Though Carter will match up against several Cowboys, he’s already setting the table for one in particular with some trash talk leading into the rivalry game.
Carter sends a message to Cowboys’ first-round rookie Tyler Booker
After being drafted by the Cowboys, Booker went viral because of a quote during a Bleacher Report interview, when he claimed his love for the game came from taking his opponents’ enjoyment for football out of them.
“They get so excited to play football until they come across Tyler Booker,” he said. “And then when I’m going after you, quarter after quarter, play after play, series after series, and I start to see that love leave their eyes, that’s what makes me love the game.”
Carter was asked about facing the rookie on Sunday and if it provided an extra spark to face a frist-year player. He took the opportunity for some slight trash talk.
“Nah, it’s more of, this more of a guy who says he likes to see the fear come out of people,” Carter said via NBC Philadelphia. “And I ain’t really got no fear, so we gonna see what’s going on with that.”
The table is set for a fun battle between a second-year All-Pro defensive tackle and a promising rookie. Prior to Carter’s ejection in Week 1, the defender was “trolling” Booker, according to Prescott’s version of events.
“In that case, (Carter) was trolling, trying to mess with (Cowboys right guard) Tyler Booker,” Prescott said back in September. “I was just looking at him, I was right here by the two linemen, guess I needed to spit, I wasn’t going to spit on my linemen, I just spit ahead.”
Carter took offense to Prescott’s spitting and retaliated. In Week 12, everyone will likely try to keep their spit in their mouths and hopefully, we get an even better game because of it.
Tyler Booker is off to a good start
Though Carter is one of the league’s best, Booker’s rookie season shows exactly why the Cowboys invested a first-round pick on him. He’s been solid in pass protection and a menace in run blocking. Prior to Week 11, Booker had allowed the fifth-lowest pressure rate among right guards, per NFL Pro. And according to Cowboys offensive coordinator Klayton Adams, he’s only getting better.
“I see him growing and improving every week,” Adams recently said of Booker. “You get encouraged by the way he finishes and by the way he plays.”
With a chance to pull off the upset at AT&T Stadium, Booker needs to be on his A-game this Sunday. Slowing down Carter will only open many avenues for the Cowboys.
