Cowboys put an end to the Trevon Diggs drama with one final decision
The Trevon Diggs drama is over as far as the 2025 Cowboys season is concerned.
The Dallas Cowboys have put an end to the Trevon Diggs saga after months’ worth of drama.
On the final day to make a decision on Diggs’ fate, the Cowboys are moving forward with their All-Pro cornerback ahead of Sunday’s Week 16 matchup versus the Los Angeles Chargers.
Diggs activated to the 53-man roster
The Cowboys indicated Diggs was trending in a positive direction this week of practice, and it yielded results for the veteran cornerback: He is being activated off of Injured Reserve, making him eligible to play in the final three games of the season.
Diggs, who was placed on IR back in October with a concussion and a knee injury, told reporters he was healthy last week, but the Cowboys decided not to play him. Now, Diggs carries no game designation and is expected to play Sunday despite EVP Stephen Jones saying on a radio appearance Friday that Diggs’ status would be a game-time decision.
However, being activated alone is a huge milestone for Diggs, who at one point appeared to be done for the season, given comments from the coaching staff and front office suggesting they weren’t happy with his health and consistency.
Diggs’ activation puts an end to months-long drama
It’s been a winding year for Diggs. In this calendar year:
- Was docked $500,000 in salary after missing a minimum benchmark of time spent with the Cowboys in the offseason
- Was publicly criticized by Jerry Jones, who questioned if signing him to a long-term deal had been a good idea
- Suffered a concussion as a result of a “home accident,” which, combined with a knee injury, landed him on Injured Reserve
- Publicly admitted he talked to DC Matt Eberflus to argue for more man coverage in the scheme, and was briefly benched
At last, getting back on the roster puts an end to the drama. Though his future beyond 2025 is probably not in Dallas, at least he will seemingly get to play for the Cowboys before the season is over.
Diggs likely to start if he plays
With DaRon Bland being placed on Injured Reserve due to a season-ending foot injury, the Cowboys have little choice at cornerback but to start Trevon Diggs alongside rookie Shavon Revel Jr.
The Cowboys are set to take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday at noon CT for what will be the last game of the season at AT&T Stadium.
