Cowboys defense hit with major blow with gameday inactives announcement ahead of Lions matchup in Week 14
The Dallas Cowboys revealed their inactives ahead of their Week 14 showdown vs Lions.
Ninety minutes before the Dallas Cowboys kick it off against the Detroit Lions for a Week 14 Thursday Night Football matchup, inactives for each squad were announced. And on the Cowboys’ side of things, the most important status is that of starting DE Jadeveon Clowney.
Clowney, who was listed questionable with a hamstring injury, went through warmups leading up to the game in what was essentially a test with to determine if he could play or not. The final decision: He won’t. Clowney is one of six Cowboys inactives for Week 14.
There’s no denying the Cowboys will miss him. He has firmly established himself as the starter on the defensive line and has been a force rushing the passer and stopping the run. The latter could be where he’s missed the most this time, as the Lions do a great job running the football outside the tackles. Clowney won’t be there to contain those plays and force opponent running backs to the inside.
Instead, it will come down to Dante Fowler Jr. and Sam Williams. Additionally, practice squad DE Isaiah Land was elevated for the showdown.

Other notes on Cowboys inactives
- Starting left tackle Tyler Guyton will be out for his second consecutive game. Backup Nate Thomas has been decent filling in at that spot.
- For yet another week, RB Jaydon Blue remains a healthy scratch. The rookie was expected to have a solidified role back in the preseason but that hasn’t been the case.
- Wide receivers Jalen Tolbert and Jonathan Mingo continue playing a snip-snap snip-snap game. Tolbert was inactive over Mingo in Week 12, viceversa in Week 13, and now it’s Tolbert again as the healthy scratch.
Lions inactives
The Lions are significantly banged up but star WR Amon-Ra St. Brown is officially active despite early belief he would miss the game.
