Bo Nix injury update pours a bucket of cold water on what had become a magical Broncos season at the worst possible time
Bo Nix’s sudden injury completely ruins the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl hopes at the worst possible time.
The Denver Broncos booked their ticket to the AFC Championship thanks to a thrilling 33-30 overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills. However, their hopes for a Super Bowl crumbled suddenly after stunning news broke shortly after their victory.
Broncos quarterback Bo Nix suffered a fractured bone in his ankle late in the win on Saturday and will have season-ending surgery. Backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham will start in Nix’s place in the AFC Championship game against either the New England Patriots or the Houston Texans.
Bo Nix’s injury dashes Broncos’ Super Bowl hopes
According to Broncos’ head coach Sean Payton, Nix suffered an ankle injury on the second-to-last play in overtime, a designed QB sweep. Nix was taken down hard to the ground but popped back up to deliver a pass to Marvin Mims right at the end of the game.
It’s up to Jarrett Stidham, who hasn’t thrown a pass in the last two regular seasons for the Broncos, as Nix took all of the snaps for the Broncos at quarterback in every game in the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Now, he’ll be thrust into the starting role in the biggest game of the season.
“On the second to last play in overtime, Bo fractured a bone in his right ankle,” Payton said. “He’s scheduled to have surgery Tuesday of this week, which will put him out for the rest of the season. [Stidham’s] ready to go. Yeah, it was the second to last play before he threw the pass to [Marvin] Mims.”
Luckily, the Broncos have arguably the best defense in the league, which can help them get into the Super Bowl. The Broncos forced four turnovers of Bills QB Josh Allen on Saturday night. However, the Nix news completely derails their night of celebration, and their road to a Super Bowl just got even tougher.
