Broncos 16-man Practice Squad Tracker: Live updates as the Denver Broncos continue to build after roster cutdown deadline
The Denver Broncos initial 53-man roster is set. Now, onto the practice squad.
George Paton and the front office have finalized their 53-man roster. However, that doesn’t mean the team is done building. A 16-man Practice Squad is going to be assembled that will allow the team to hopefully retain some of the players they had to waive, maybe even hours before. If you fell in love with a player and he was released or cut, there’s a chance you could see him back on the team.
Context is important, and the rules of the PS can be a little confusing. Rookies and undrafted rookies are immediately eligible. Next, a player can be eligible if they were active on an NFL roster for less than nine regular-season games during their only accrued season in the NFL. And finally, the league allows teams to carry up to six players per team, with no accrued season limitations. These are referred to as vested veterans. In our prediction, we had the team getting back Sam Ehlinger, but that might prove to be too difficult if another team wants to send him an offer he can’t refuse.

Denver could’ve had a bonus PS player had Jeremy Crawshaw not made the initial 53 due to the International Pathway Program. Teams that have a player from this program are awarded an extra PS exception only for players in that program, but having a starting punter is obviously way more important. We placed him there in our prediction of what the PS might look like ahead of the regular season. Crawshaw being on the initial 53-man roster means that he can no longer have that exemption if the team chooses to move him to the PS later in the year. Some notable players from across the league who were a part of this program: Jordan Maliata, Efe Obada, Jakob Johnson, and Sammis Reyes.
