Broncos: Expert gives insight into Dre'Mont Jones situation before FA
The Broncos need to make sure they get it done.
The Denver Broncos have a ton of decisions they have to make this offseason and some of them will be hard. They have players that could and will be cut due to cap situations.
The Broncos currently only have $9 million in salary cap space, and cutting some players they can't see on the team next season will help them get more space.
And man, do the Broncos need more cap space, for one huge reason. Dre'Mont Jones is that huge reason, literally, the guy is a monster.
Per James Palmer of NFL Network, He and the Broncos are both wanting to Jones to stay in Denver, which is what we all want. The Broncos look at him as a core player and want to get a long-term deal done, but Denver knows the market for a player of his caliber is going up.
It's sounding like Denver is worried they won't be able to retain the 2023 unrestricted free agent. There will be a ton of suitors for Jones, and someone will offer him more money than the Broncos can, so really, it's only a matter of time.
Per spotrac, his projected market value is $17.1 million annually, and as things currently stand, the Broncos don't even have that money right now.
It's going to be close, but if I had to make a prediction, Jones is gone playing for another team like the Raiders next year.
