When you were as bad as the Denver Broncos were last year, you have to sometimes overpay to get the things you need in the offseason. That's in every sport. The better teams are sometimes more desirable destinations, so, to make yourself a more desirable destination, pay more.

It's simple really. But, One NFL analyst seems to think that was the Broncos' biggest issue in the offseason.

Least favorite: Seemingly ignoring market values

One could argue the deals for tackle Mike McGlinchey, guard Ben Powers, and interior defender Zach Allen were among the richest deals for players this offseason. All are good players who will make an impact in Denver, but the club didn’t seem all that interested in getting good value.

The Broncos went out and snagged two of the better offensive lineman at their respected positions in all of free agency. They needed to do that because they had terrible offensive line problems. Denver was tied for first in the league in sacks allowed with 55 as the Chicago Bears did too.

So, to make sure that they would get the two guys they wanted, they had to pay more.

It seems like people are forgetting that Denver is a team that has been bad, like pretty bad, for the last seven years. That is not something that helps them in free agency, and I'm sure the cold weather isn't a huge plus either. Money has to be something they use to their advantage.

Ben Powers is a guy who allowed just 12 quarterback pressures in over 600 pass-blocking snaps, as he played every game. That's elite pass-blocking, so I'm sure the Broncos weren't the only team interested in signing him.

Mike McGlinchey is a guy who has dominated over the years on an elite offensive line in San Francisco. Now the Broncos have both of them, and it's all because of the money they paid them. Well, I'm sure there were other reasons too, but, you get the point.
