The Denver Broncos are coming off a year where they exceeded everyone's expectations, ending with them punching their ticket to the AFC playoffs.
Now, they are tasked with building on their success and taking that next step. Many believe the best way they can do that is by using their first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft but continuing to add to their defense will always be important when you have to face quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert twice a year in the AFC West. A new A to Z Sports mock draft has them adding a polarizing prospect to their already elite defense.
Broncos land Ole Miss DT Walter Nolen in a new mock draft

"Not every team is going to be high on Walter Nolen due to some off-the-field character questions. But if a team meets with him and thinks those questions are exaggerated, he is a special talent and would elevate an already elite Broncos defense to being arguably the best unit in the entire league."
– New A to Z Sports mock draft
Walter Nolen is one of the most polarizing prospects receiving significant first-round buzz in this year's draft class. His film and work at the senior bowl show flashes of him being a dominant force out of the interior. If you were only to take that into consideration, he would be a lock to hear his name called in the first round, but unfortunately for Nolen, that's not all teams consider before turning in their draft card.
Many around the league question Nolen's character, which could cause teams to hesitate to use a premium selection on him. But if the Broncos were able to get a good read on Nolen during any meetings they had with him throughout the cycle, he would be a dynamic addition to their defense. He would project as a day-one starter, which would help create plenty of pressure out of the interior and make life on opposing QBs hard. But if the questions about his character turn out to be true, anyone who uses a first-round pick on him could severely regret that decision.
Denver Broncos just showed that they could be preparing to take a tight end in the 2025 NFL Draft even after signing Evan Engram
The Broncos could use the depth.
