Broncos reach an agreement with Jaguars TE Chris Manhertz
Russell Wilson is going to love the team’s latest decision.
The Sean Payton era is alive and well for the Denver Broncos.
With free agency now officially underway, Payton and the front office have wasted no time bolstering both the offense and defense. So far, the Broncos have done a good job protecting Russell Wilson with some key signings to the offensive line.
The Broncos' front office started firing off deals immediately out of the gate. While last year fell flat in many ways, Payton has helped revitalize the team and the excitement behind them. Fans can't help but be happy with the decisions that were made today.
Case and point, Payton and the Broncos' front office brought in more help for Russell Wilson, former Jaguars TE Chris Manhertz.
Adam Schefter, NFL Insider, broke the news of Manhertz's intent to sign, providing a veteran presence and some much-needed depth to the locker room.
Schefter followed up with some of the particulars surrounding the deal.
Sean Payton understands that Russell Wilson not only needs weapons, but he needs to be protected at all costs. Looking at Manhertz catching stats, nothing extraordinary stands out.
However, Sean Payton proved his genius by focusing on one category that has Manhertz standing out among the competition: run blocking. Payton saw an immediate need and went after it, making sure to fill that position on the first available day.
Feeding Russell Wilson should be the sentiment behind this offseason. Both with offensive weapons and offensive line help, the number one priority seems to be setting him up for success. Payton is off to a great start as his first season with the Denver Broncos is almost underway.
The talented HC is on a roll, locking up some huge deals as the free agency period has just begun.
Buckle up, Broncos nation.
