The hits just keep coming for the Denver Broncos.
When Sean Payton was brought in, it was to turn things around and bring back the championship ways fans have been clamoring for.
While Payton has done what he can to turn the team around, changing nearly everything about how the organization ran, there's something that's completely out of his control: injuries.
Both WR Tim Patrick and LB Jonas Griffith have been lost to the season with a torn achilles and torn ACL, respectively.
Now, it's been announced that the team would be bringing in LB Austin Ajiake while officially placing Griffith on injured reserve.
Ajiake, who had previously tried out for the team at minicamp in June, is a former running back turned linebacker who played his college football at UNLV. The now-linebacker appeared in 38 games in college and amassed 231 tackles, four sacks, and two interceptions.
The talented linebacker went undrafted before agreeing to terms with the Carolina Panthers but ended up not signing. Afterward, Ajiake was a member of the Houston Roughnecks via the XFL draft in June.
This is purely a depth move for the organization that's desperately trying to stay healthy. It'll be up to Ajiake to ball out and show the world that he deserves to see some playing time.
Payton wasn't done there, though. It was later reported by Mike Klis from 9News that the team would also be bringing in ILB Chris Garrett and DE Breeland Speaks for a workout.
Garrett has spent time jumping around teams. Playing one game with the Rams in 2021 after being a part of the Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings organizations. Speaks, a DT, was traded by the Bengals to the Chiefs where he saw 16 games with Kansas City that resulted in one forced fumble, 1.5 sacks, and 24 combined tackles. Then, Sreaks jumped around the league spending time on the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, and Las Vegas Raiders.
While Speaks and Garrett are longshots, Payton is doing everything he can to provide depth on the roster. For Ajiake, if there's any team in the league that can find gold with undrafted rookies, it's the Broncos.
Payton has been busy this offseason.
