The Denver Broncos had one of the worst Mondays in the offseason. They started their week with wide receiver Tim Patrick having a complete tear of his Achilles and wide receiver K.J. Hamler being waived due to a heart condition.

The major question looms: will they have enough depth to have a competent receiver room without those two guys? The correct and short answer is yes, they didn't have either of them last season.

Patrick missed all of 2022 with a torn ACL, and Hamler played just seven games last season, and when he was on the field, you could tell that he wasn't 100%. So, yes, they will be fine, as that unit wasn't awful last season in terms of names on paper. They may be more prepared this offseason for a potential depth issue in the wide receiver room than they were last season.

Broncos WR room is prepared

Denver used one of their only draft picks to go ahead and take a receiver on day two of the 2023 NFL Draft. Marvin Mims out of Oklahoma was looked at as a special teams guy to start his career, but after injuries to the No. 3 and No. 4 guys on the roster, he may find himself moving up the depth chart quickly.

Mims has great speed and can go up and get the ball when thrown into a contested catch. He has the ability to be a good route runner, but obviously, he still has a lot to learn. The only thing is Mims hasn't been practicing at full capacity as of late due to an injury; however, they should be back soon.

They also went and signed Marquez Callaway, a former receiver for the New Orleans Saints under Sean Payton. Two years ago, in Payton's offense, he had nearly 700 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He knows the offense and is a guy who is used to being a third or fourth option.

Kendall Hinton has had an up-and-down career since being a quarterback for the Broncos, but not by choice. He has dealt with some injuries, some bad play, and just the bad luck of the draw. Now, he can submit himself as the roster's third, fourth, or fourth receiver, But it will be challenging.

Rookie Montrell Washington was used in a few different ways last season. He had some special teams snaps as a returner and was sometimes used on end-around plays because of his speed. Now, did those work? Most of the time, no. However, he has the skill level and athletic ability to have a good sophomore season after a shaky rookie season.

Last season underrated rookies Jalen Virgil and Brandon Johnson both got a touchdown during the regular season. They brought a spark to the team at times when no one else could. I'm not saying they will make the 53-man roster, but they have a good chance to.

Now, are all of these guys' names that are widely known for their talent and skill level? No. The Broncos don't have one of the league's flashiest, deepest, or best receiver rooms. However, they have one that is good enough to replace the production they are losing in Patrick and Hamler, which, if we are going off of last season, is just Hamler's 165 receiving yards.

They are more prepared than we think.
