The Denver Broncos ended their awful losing streak to the Kansas City Chiefs last season. It was at, well, we don't have to say, but just know it had been a while since Denver last beat Kansas City.
But they were able to do it in 2023 and are hoping they can carry over that good juju against the now back-to-back Super Bowl Champions.
While it hasn't been much of one as of late, the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos are a historic rivalry that features two teams who hate one another. The Broncos can get that back going if they build the rivalry back up by beating the Chiefs again. Luckily for them, they will have an opportunity to beat them in Week 1.
In 2024, the Broncos could be that team that plays the Chiefs in Week 1 to kick the season off, which also means they can not only spoil their ring and banner night but spoil their potential chances of having a three-peat, which has never been done before by any NFL team.
When a team wins a Super Bowl, as the Broncos have done three times, that team then hosts the season opener the next season. This past year, we saw the Chiefs, who beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl the year prior, host the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football. That means they will host in Week 1 this year, as they just beat the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl.
Now, beating the Chiefs in Week 1 certainly doesn't eliminate them from the playoffs, as they lost in Week 1 to the Detroit Lions and then wound up winning the Super Bowl. However, it does make things a bit harder on the Chiefs. It makes their chances of having a three-peat a bit harder.
And, hey, we know the Broncos can beat them because they did it in the last matchup. We know that with this Sean Payton team, they will be ready, too.
