Thursday night's "showdown" between the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts was easily the worst game of the 2022 season, so far.

It wasn't a game that featured two strong defenses shutting down opposing offenses. There were penalties, poor execution, missed reads, – whatever constitutes bad offensive play is what filled the majority of the night.

The defense just took advantage of two piss-poor offenses. That's all it was.

Part of -and a big part of- the Broncos' offensive problems was the play from quarterback Russell Wilson. Again.

Wilson has been nowhere close to what the Broncos thought they were getting when they traded for him back in March. He's been awful.

And it doesn't look like things are going to change anytime soon.

Some of that is due to the overall state of the Broncos offense. Head coach Nathaniel Hackett's system isn't working and there haven't been any noticeable improvements that should lead anyone to think things will get better in 2022.

According to NFL Network's Kyle Brandt, Wilson's aura and approach with his teammates will also contribute to more bad offense in the future.

"I look at what's happening with the Broncos and Hamler and the coach and I look back at Russell Wilson and [ask], 'Where is this going?' with his relationship in the locker room," Brandt said on the most recent episode of NFL Network's Good Morning Football. "Becuase I think Russell Wilson is one of the least-authentic personalities we have in this league. I think Russell Wilson is a poser.

"And that doesn't mean he's a bad person – I actually think he's a good person. I think he tries to be something that he's not. And when you make $245 million dollars, you've either gotta be a really great guy with a locker room that loves you, or you gotta be an amazing player."

Wilson does carry a strange vibe with him and it does feel like an I'm-larger-than-life vibe a lot of the time. He constantly speaks in cliches and coach/player speak and outside of the his presser after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 2020-2021 Super Bowl, he's never really given the public "authentic emotion".

Granted, he doesn't owe anyone that. Whatsoever. But, at the same time, he can't expect people to be on his side when the chips are down like they are now.

Especially when people have experienced what Brandt recently experienced with the former Super Bowl champ.

"I worked the NFL honors, I worked the red carpet," said Brandt. "[Travis] Kelce comes by, [Aaron] Rodgers comes by. Russell Wilson shows up with his sunglasses and his wife and I think they think they're Jay-Z and Beyonce and they will literally put their hand up and say, 'No we're not talking.'

"Why? Because you think you're that cool and you're that famous and you're that amazing? Everything is so perfect.

"That doesn't work in a locker room unless you're really good or you're a really, really good guy. It just doesn't work. $245 million bucks can [cause things to] come unraveled fast. Especially when you're missing throws and putting up nine points in a nationally-televised game."

Whew. Brandt didn't pull any punches.

It will be interesting to see what happens from this point on and honestly, a lot of it does hang on what Wilson does as a leader. As we all know, there isn't a veteran coaching presence on this team and there's simply an all-around lack of veteran identity throughout the roster.

It's going to take a drastic change in approach from Wilson, which is something we have yet to see. Therefore, it's fair to question if we'll ever see.

But the one thing we do know is this: Broncos fans are already running out of patience, as we saw with all the early departures last night.

And they don't have the history with Wilson like the Seattle Seahawks did. There's no allegiance. Which only makes the proverbial leash that much shorter.

"The Broncos fanbase has no history with him. They have no allegiance to him," said Brandt. "This is not a Seahawks thing where they drafted him and grew up with him and he's their guy.

"[There's] none of that."
