The Denver Broncos have found themselves in a bit of a situation. Their best offensive player, wide receiver Courtland Sutton, is holding out of voluntary OTAs because of a contract dispute. We recently figured out that Sutton wants a guaranteed $2 million raise.

Considering the exceptional performance Courtland Sutton has consistently delivered, his desire to see his current $13.5 million base salary elevated to the $15-$16 million range is not surprising. Despite the challenging circumstances he has faced, including a lackluster team environment, Sutton has managed to maintain his productivity. His resilience and ability to perform under such conditions underscore the value he brings to the team.

Now, he finally has a rapport with Russell Wilson and the offense is better than it was the year before by a mile, and the team cuts Wilson. So, why would he not want more money? With Week 2 of OTAs for the Broncos just now done, the team still did not see Sutton at the facility. So, what's the update now?

"Courtland Sutton, this is a unique situation because they clearly want him there at his salary at about $13.6 million he's due in cash," NFL insider Jeremy Fowler said during an ESPN NFL Live segment on Friday. "He wants a little bit of a sweetener."

"They haven't done that yet, although I think they may be open to that down the road. They have gotten trade inquiries on Sutton. They have rebuffed those up to this point. Will that change? We'll see if maybe there's an enticing offer closer to camp."

The Broncos aren't really worried that the situation will escalate, and Sutton will sit out this season.

"There isn't any concern. Here's why," head coach Sean Payton recently said, via Mike Klis of KUSA. "That will sort itself out."

The Broncos drafted quarterback Bo Nix with their first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and grabbed his former college teammate in wide receiver Troy Franklin. With Franklin, Tim Patrick, Marvin Mims, and Sutton, the Broncos can have a fairly good wide receiver room around their rookie quarterback.

It's not just about getting Sutton back to Denver, it's about ensuring the team's success. His presence as a safety blanket for rookie quarterback Bo Nix could be a game-changer. The sooner the contract dispute is resolved, the sooner the team can focus on their game plan and work towards their goals.

With the Broncos' rookie class all signed to contracts now, and the team still has at least $7 million in effective cap space per Spotrac, they should have no problem giving Sutton what he wants.
