The Denver Broncos may have made the right decision with one of their recent signings, as he ranked pretty highly among the best interior defenders in the NFL.
When the Broncos decided not to pay Dre'Mont Jones, or they couldn't, they had to devise a replacement. Jones did a lot for the Broncos and was one of the best players on the team. But they may have ended up finding a better player in his replacement.
Jones is on the Seattle Seahawks, where they have many former Broncos players. Jones will fit their defense perfectly and could be a guy to watch for next year, as their defense is just a few pieces away from being good.
But, for the Broncos, they went and got Zach Allen, the former Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle. He's pretty good too. Pro Football Focus recently ranked the top 32 interior defenders in the league, and Allen made the cut, barely. But, there is a surprise to it all.
32. ZACH ALLEN, DENVER BRONCOS Allen turned a career year with the Arizona Cardinals into a nice contract with the Broncos in free agency. And with Allen being just 25 years old after the first four years of his career, Denver will feel good about his career trajectory. His 71.6 PFF pass-rush grade in 2022 was the best of his NFL tenure, as were his six sacks and 35 total pressures. – Gordon McGuinness, PFF
Sure, Allen barely made the cut at 32; however, the guy he replaced didn't make the list. Allen is a defensive end in a 3-4 defense, so, technically, he is an interior defender because of the role the outside linebackers play. The Seahawk's defense is the exact same, so Jones is also considered an interior defender. However, Jones isn't considered one of the top-32 in the league.
To me, he is. However, it is subjective. Jones is a guy who won't be easy to replace. But the Allen signing is starting to look better and better.
Broncos: Zach Allen lands on NFL’s All-Underrated Team
The Denver Broncos front office are doing everything they can to turn things around. At least on paper, it seems like they’re going to do just that.
