ESPN analyst makes absurd pick for Broncos in third round

The Denver Broncos don't have a first or second-round pick. In fact, they only have five total picks, which isn't great. But, they do have two picks in the third round, and they just so happen to be right next to each other, back-to-back.
They have to find a way to get positions of need with what they do have. And, they could very well trade up, because Sean Payton has a history of doing so. But for now, they have to make due.
They need positions on both sides of the ball. They need help on defense, even after a great defensive showing last year, and of course, the offense needs work.
One ESPN analyst has the Broncos going both ways with their first two picks. But, he made a mistake with the second pick. With the first one, Todd McShay took outside linebacker Byron Young from Tennessee. That is a fine pick, but it wasn't what the Broncos need the most on defense. They need defensive back help.
So because they didn't take a cornerback or safety with their first pick, they should take one with their next pick, right? Wrong. McShay has the Broncos going on offense.
McShay's pick: Tyjae Spears, RB, Tulane
Denver can stay right there at the podium to announce its new third-down back. Spears makes defenders miss, has breakaway speed, and can make an impact in the pass game.

The Broncos need a running back, but not with their second pick. Spears would be a pick for a team that desperately needs a backup running back. On this offense, when Williams comes back, Spears is the third-string running back.
He is a very good player, but they signed Samaje Perine to be the backup for Williams and to start while Williams is out. That pick just doesn't make any sense at all. Now if it was a running back on day three it would make a little more sense.
Here is what Pro Football Focus thinks of Spears:
Spears is a space player with big-time home-run potential. He’s a headache for linebackers in the open field. This past fall, he went for 1,587 yards on 231 carries with 19 scores and 1,052 yards after contact.

The Broncos need to go cornerback here, especially if they want their pass defense to be better. Right now their secondary is looking like Patrick Surtain, Justin Simmons, and Demarri Mathis. Their running back room is Javonte Williams, Perine, Crockett, and Badie.
They don't need a running back that bad.
