The Denver Broncos could be making a huge move before the 2023 season actually kicks off, and it would be something to see.
We have heard nothing but rumors all offseason about what this new coaching staff wants to do, along with the new ownership group. The rumors have mainly stayed in the area of the wide receiver room, but they have ventured to other places as well.
One of the huge ordeals this offseason was a report that the Broncos may trade Jeudy or Sutton. Then we heard from Payton and Paton that they would not be doing that. Of course, that's what those guys are supposed to say, but it made most people believe it, for a bit.
Then the Broncos made a move in the draft that screams that they will be trading a wide receiver, they just haven't done it yet. Now, one ESPN analyst thinks, and it actually predicting that they will indeed trade one of their wide receivers before the season starts.
Mims isn't coming in to be the fourth wideout. It would be a surprise if Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, and Tim Patrick were all on the roster ahead of Mims come Week 1… I argued that trading Jeudy made the most sense at the time, given the likely return and the physical traits coach Sean Payton typically wants from his wide receivers. But he might also be the best of the bunch; Jeudy averaged 2.3 yards per route run last season in what might charitably be described as a broken Broncos offense. Sutton was down at 1.6 yards per route run, and Patrick missed the entire season with a torn ACL. For the Broncos, it might make sense to wait until training camp and see whether a team loses a star wide receiver to a season-ending injury. Jeudy would make sense for a team like the Giants, but Brian Daboll might need to evaluate their bevy of options in camp before making a more significant move for a potential No. 1 wideout. -Bill Barnwell, ESPN
I think if any of them do get traded, it should be Sutton, the guy who has been far more inconsistent and a nit injury prone. Now, will he get you more than Jeudy would in a trade? No. But, I feel like we have still yet to see what Jeudy can be at his full potential. I feel like with Sutton we have pretty much seen his ceiling.
Barnwell makes all great points, especially about Mims coming in. I think it will be interesting to see where they have him in training camp too, whether it be with the ones, twos, and so on. This offseason can only get crazier.
