The Denver Broncos have a former player speak up about a huge issue in today's era of football.

Whether you liked him or didn't, and the exit definitely doesn't help his case, you can't disagree with what Melvin Gordon says about the running back position in today's league.

Gordon best described the position with, "It literally sucks."

The running back position is one of the toughest in the league because of the physical beating they take every game and the way they are treated contract-wise.

"It's just so tough for running backs right now, man," Gordon said to CBS Sports' Jim Rome. "You have a lot of running backs that are out there, and we just don't get no love. It's literally the worst position to play in the NFL right now. It literally sucks."

Right now, some of the best running backs in the league, and arguably the best in the league in Josh Jacobs and Saquon Barkley, are holding out because their contracts aren't what they should be, in their opinions.

It's tough being a running back in this era. They are also the most disposable position in the league Guys go undrafted and fill roster spots at that position now. Or even late-round picks. The Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco was a seventh-round pick and basically stole Clyde Edwards-Helaire's job, a former first-round pick.

Either way, Gordon, a Chiefs running back after his stint with the Broncos, says he is ready.

"I'm just staying ready because I know what I can do," the two-time Pro Bowler said. "I know once I get in camp or any camp, I can turn some heads. I know what I need to do. I know my mistakes that I've made, and you have to be able to correct them, but I'm ready to go. I'm just staying ready. I still want to play; I have some tread left on the tires. It's just about the right situation."

Gordon had a fumbling issue and a bad one at that. Last season he lost a few games because of his issue. If he can fix that, and it's a big one to fix, he is worthy of a roster spot by someone.
