The Denver Broncos are off to an atrocious start to the season. While this doesn't rest on the shoulders of Wilson, who is playing surprisingly well, the team may be looking for his future replacement as we speak.

An 0-3 start to the season capped off by a 50-point loss to the Miami Dolphins has the Broncos sitting at number two in the upcoming draft with some big-name players with high expectations coming out of college.

Perhaps the biggest name, USC QB Caleb Williams. The consensus number one overall pick (depending on who you ask) is the golden goose for teams heading into the draft and the Broncos are doing their due diligence early.

Quentin Sickafoose, Digital Sports Producer for 9News tweeted (or X'd?) a photo of GM George Paton taking a look at USC QB Caleb Williams. Surely the team is there for some other players as well, but Williams is the top dog heading into the draft and if the Broncos' woes continue, could very well be a player the front office takes.

It took a king's ransom to bring in Wilson to Denver and the QB cannot be thrilled with the team looking in on another QB. While we respect the due diligence of Paton, this is a smart move for the organization.

You'd have to imagine that if Wilson falters, and the team cannot find a way to win, Williams will be their number-one target heading into next season. While the season isn't lost quite yet, a loss to the Bears could swing the Broncos into tank-for-Williams mode.

There's a lot of football left, and the schedule isn't going to do the Broncos any favors.
