The Denver Broncos recently made a move by cutting one of their former players, and Sean Payton hinted at the possibility of him returning in 2023.

The Broncos have been making moves in the 2023 offseason, as they continue to show that this isn't the same ownership or regime as before. This isn't the same group that allowed the Broncos to have several losing seasons from the Super Bowl win to last year.

This is a team showing that they want to turn things around, and they very well could. That's why they have been so busy. They killed the free agency period, and they had a pretty good draft despite one pick, that in my opinion could have gone a different way.

Then they signed some undrafted free agents and even made some cuts. Jake Martin, a guy they traded for last season, was one of the guys they cut recently. But, don't rule out him coming back.

"In that process, some of these guys might come right back," Payton said on Saturday. "I mean, it's the hard thing when you're trying to manage the numbers of bringing in, sign, you sign someone, an undrafted free agent to a contract, he goes to your numbers. So there'll be a couple of players that might, you know, all of a sudden be coming back to us in a week and I don't want to go any further than that. But, it, it varies with each player and, and, and I know Jake [Martin] was one of them."

Martin was a guy they traded for because they liked what they saw in him as a backup pass rusher. In Houston, where he played in 2021, he had four sacks. Last year he had 2.5. He could be a guy that produces for a backup role.

But, he ended up saving the Broncos roughly $9 million in cap space, so the move was a good one. Bringing him back on a cheaper deal wouldn't be a bad idea. When you think about the injuries the Broncos have dealt with the last few years, having depth at that position is crucial.
