The Denver Broncos won a game. That's right, after shooting themselves in the foot week after week for four weeks, they won another game, when we thought it wasn't likely. And just like that, they are two games back of the first place in the division. Just throwing that out there.
The biggest story in this one though is the offense. They started rough, and in fact threw an interception to start the game. However, they quickly cleaned things up.
How? Well, one could say you could give credit to the head coach this time around, who gave Russell Wilson some words of encouragement.
"The first quarter, that was a hot start," Hackett said. "We come out, we go three and out, we throw a pick on the second play. Again that comes to that pressing. People wanting to make things happen and trying to do too much. I talked with Russell, I told him to take a breath, breathe, and do what he does.
"He kind of came into what we kind of wanted to do in this game. When we saw the adjustments that Jacksonville made, we were able to get some efficient plays for him. It's a long football game, and with a great defense like we have, you are always going to be in that game, and I think he knows that."
Wilson didn't start this game great, and I think we all saw that. Then, after Hackett told him what he said, it seemed like everything changed. I won't sit here and say the offense was amazing after that, but something definitely changed.
Russell Wilson started making his reads, going through every progression needed, and we saw him throwing it deep and connecting with receivers, not missing open players.
This is what we need to see from this offense every week. The way they played is the way they were expected to play every week, at the least. This offense has so much potential. We saw a glimpse of that today.
It could have been worse though. Instead, we saw Nathaniel Hackett keep Russell Wilson from imploding.
